why in the heck am i asking YOU, in these hard economic times, to donate your hard earned cash?

I'm headed to Summerkeys, a music camp in Maine, in August 2009 to spend a full week reacquainting myself with the 'cello. Let me explain--this new blog is my shameless appeal for funds to defray the costs involved: tuition, housing, food, travel, and a hard case for my beloved 'cello which has been traveling, since 1989, in a cloth case.

I applied last year for a Maryland State Arts Council grant and was graciously awarded another this year, which will take care of some of these expenses, but I could use a little help covering the rest of the costs. I'm absolutely, completely, totally and seriously saying to you: no amount is too small. Even one dollar will do the trick. Imagine if I got 500 people to donate a buck. That would be A-MAZING. So spread the word. And I thank you kindly. All you have to do is click on the PayPal "Donate" button to the left and donate whatever you are motivated to. No amount will be turned away! All amounts will be applied to this excursion!! I promise not to buy guitar strings with these funds!!!

So okay, to answer the question above: I'm asking because I think this could be something people, especially the ellen cherry fan-base, would want to support. And also, if you are wondering what to do with that extra change you found in your car, just send it on over. Or maybe you found a dollar in some pants you haven't worn in three weeks. A bonus! Why not spend it something worthwhile to me? (Does that sound selfish? I don't mean it to be.)

I guess I'm just trying this out and seeing if anything comes of it. I'm going anyway, but this will be an experiment. I've had SO much incredible support along the way in this journey as ellen cherry and I hope you, if you're a fan reading this, feel that your support has been rewarded. I promise to come back with interesting stories. Those stories will turn into songs. And maybe the next time you see me, I'll be able to play more than one tune on my 'cello.
